I had already read a lot about honeybees and their fascinating behavior, like <a href=\"https:\/\/honeybeesuite.com\/piping-quacking-and-tooting-its-a-queen-thing\/\">queen piping<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dave-cushman.net\/bee\/queenball.html\">balling<\/a>, so I loved encountering those behaviors from the &#8220;inside.&#8221; I wasn&#8217;t 100% convinced by the voice, but it felt like Paull got as close as possible, with some great ways of depicting non-human communication (vibrations in the comb, data transmission through antenna contact and pheromones). <em>Watership Down<\/em> is the closest comparison, although I wouldn&#8217;t call it a great novel in the same way&#8211;more of a novelty\/experiment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The June book for the Nature and Environment book club&#8211;I think it&#8217;s the first novel we&#8217;ve read.
